Apricot, Prunus armeniaca, Tree Seeds (Fast, Hardy, Edible, Showy, Fall Color)

Apricot, Prunus armeniaca, Tree Seeds Hardy, Fast Growth, Fragrant Showy Flowers, Edible Fruits, Fall Color, Bonsai, Cold, Wind and Drought Tolerant, Adaptable The Apricot is a small, rounded tree reaching 15 to 20 feet in height. It is a hardy tree, bearing stone fruit, closely related to the peach. The leaves are broad, simple, ovate or broad-elliptic and mostly smooth, medium green turning golden yellow in the fall. The fragrant showy flowers are single, white to pink and over 1 inch wide, blooming in the spring before the leaves emerge. The fruit, which ripens end of July to mid-August, are about 1 inch in diameter, yellow with red flush, showy, edible and borne in abundance. The fruit provides food for wildlife during the fall. Fruits can be eaten fresh and are excellent for making jams and jellies. Apricot oil is used as a substitute for Oil of Almonds, which it very closely resembles. It is far less expensive and finds considerable employment in cosmetics, for its softening action on the skin. It is often fraudulently added to genuine Almond oil and used in the manufacture of soaps, cold creams and other preparations of the perfumery trade. Larkspur is a member of the Delphinium family, and the different varieties range from 1 to 7 feet.WHEN TO PLANT LARKSPUR: Plant your larkspur seeds in the fall or spring, early in the season.WHERE TO PLANT LARKSPUR: Larkspur plants like full sun to partial shade, and they will grow very quickly. They thrive in average soil and cool weather.HOW TO PLANT LARKSPUR: Larkspur is notoriously difficult to transplant, so it is best to sow seeds directly into your flower garden after all danger of frost. Cover larkspur seeds lightly with 1/8th inch of soil. Space your seeds 4 inches apart, and after germination, thin seedlings to 10-12 inches apart. Keep the soil moist to feed your larkspurs’ fast growth.HOW TO CARE FOR LARKSPUR: During dry periods, water them once or twice a week. Provide a general purpose fertilizer once a month until after they have bloomed. Staking may be necessary to keep them from bending under the weight of the blooms. Larkspurs are highly susceptible to frost, fungal disease (especially Sclerotium), and mildew. Insects should not be a problem, but if they are, use a general purpose insect repellent.Delphinium benefits from Cold Stratification:Cold StratificationHOW TO COLD STRATIFY SEEDS Everyone wants plants. Now. But there are a small group of seeds that require a special treatment before they will even germinate in a climate that has temperatures below freezing. This process is called “Cold Stratification.” There are two ways to accomplish this. Fall Planting If time is not a problem, you can put them in the ground in fall and let them go through a winter. They will sprout next year, but not flower. The following year, having gone through two winters, they will return and bloom as expected. If you are planting poppies direct sowing is recommended in late fall or early spring for zones 2-8 Create a “False Winter” The second way to do this, if you want to save time, is to create a “false winter.” What this does is trick the seeds into thinking they have been in the ground for an entire year. All they need is to be in your refrigerator for at least 2 ½ months. About 3 months before spring, place seeds in a plastic bag with a handful of slightly dampened, clean peat, paper towel, or a mix of clean peat and sand. Seal and label the bag with seed name and date, then store in the refrigerator (not freezer) for at least 2½ mos. before planting in spring. (The cold period mimics a full winter’s cold.) Once your seed has been treated, it’s ready to plant when spring arrives. ** Larkspur can be poisonous to some animals—most notably cattle!** WE SHIP FAST & FREE!
