Southern Bald Swamp Cypress Tree Seeds (Taxodium distichum)…Southern* The Bald Swamp Cypress is a Native Tree to the Southeastern United States from Areas around the Mississippi Valley Drainage Basin, Gulf Coast, and up the Coastal Plain to the Mid-Atlantic States. Bald Cypresses are Well-Adapted to Wet Conditions along Riverbanks and Swamps, but are Highly Adaptable to a Range of Different Soils in Zones 5-11. They are Also found in Dry Areas and are Frequently Planted as Ornamental Trees as they’re Beautiful in the Summer, and even More Gorgeous in the Fall with their Brilliant Color Display.The bald cypress can grow in a wide range of soil conditions, from moist, acidic to neutral, sandy soils to wet soils in standing water. However, it prefers moist, acidic, sandy loams. They are cold tolerant to zone 5. However, in areas with high temperatures and intense sunlight, the foliage may suffer from leaf burn. The bald cypress can grow in full sun to part shade, and is native to southern swamps, bayous, and rivers, primarily being found in coastal areas from Maryland to Texas.ZONES 5-11Bald Cypress Germination:1) Soak seeds in water for 24 hours.2) Place inside a zip lock bag of moist peat moss or vermiculite. Place inside of fridge for 90 days to cold stratify. This will break the seed’s dormancy and allow them to sprout.3) Plant seeds 1/4″ deep in potting soil. 4) Keep wet with indirect light while using a humidity dome, or small piece of plastic to keep humidity levels high.5) Expect germination in 4-6 weeks.
