Yarrow is an such awesome and low maintenance herb to have in the garden. It produces beautiful cream colored flowering heads that grow upon tall. delicately leaved stalks, grow up to 3′ tall and may need to be staked to keep their posture. It has a strong, sweet scent, similar to chrysanthemums. Deadheading old flowers will encourage the plant to produce more blooms. Yarrow be used medicinally to cure a number of ailments, its astringent and anti-inflammatory properties have made it popular since the ancient Greeks. Yarrow is used as a culinary herb, although cooking it can bring out a bitterness. It can be used fresh with fruit and in any creamy dessert or try finely chopped young leaves in a salad. Yarrow is a great companion plant, it is helpful to the health of its neighboring plants as it is to humans. Buddleja Davidii, also known as Butterfly Bush, is a perennial upright shrub native to China and Japan. The “Buzz” cultivar was developed in England by Thompson and Morgan as a compact, non-invasive variety. Davidii Buzz is sterile and reaches 3-5′ tall by 2-3′ wide, making it the perfect patio shrub. Though the bush takes up less space than the typical Buddleja, the flowers are still 6-8″ long, fragrant, and in bloom from June-September. This plant attracts bees and butterflies and will tolerate any well-drained soil. In ideal conditions, planted in the ground, these perennials will live up to 10 years.
