Our main offerings: Hundreds of heirloom, rare, beautiful flowers and Herbs and Vegetables seeds. Especially we provide hard to find Herb and flowers seeds! CARROTS SEEDS | DANVERS CARROTS – NON GMO – USA Danvers is an excellent high-yield carrot that produces a dependably delicious taste. The Danvers Carrot is a bit longer and thinner than its more familiar cousin – the Chantenay carrot. Plant Danvers Carrot seeds in spring for a bountiful summer harvest. Sowing: Prepare the soil 3 weeks before the last expected spring frost or when the soil temperature reaches 45 degrees F. These short, stocky carrots can grow even in heavy soil. Build up a raised mound in the row, about 8″ wide; sow Danvers carrot seeds on it, and cover them with 1/4″ very loose soil. Keep the soil moist, but do not allow the area above these medium sized carrot seeds to become hard – this may prevent the seeds from germinating. Sow more Danvers carrot seeds every 3-6 weeks for a continuous crop. For companion planting benefits, plant carrots with aromatic herbs or onions; this will repel the carrot fly and its maggots. Growing: When the seedlings reach 2″ high, gently thin them to 2-4″ apart, depending on desired carrot size. The farther apart they are, the bigger they will grow. Do not allow the soil to dry out. When the tops of the carrots begin to emerge from the soil, cover them with mulch to keep them tender. Keep weeds under control to prevent the young carrots from being stunted. Danvers carrots are quite heat tolerant and resist splitting. Harvesting: Begin gathering baby carrots when grow big enough to eat, to allow the remaining carrots to reach a larger size. If they become difficult to pull, make sure the ground is moist. To store carrots for the winter, twist off the tops but do not wash them. Layer them in damp sand or sawdust. In warmer climates, leave the carrots in the garden over winter topped with a thick layer of mulch. Seed Saving: Because carrot varieties will cross pollinate with each other as well as with wild carrots, isolate the plant for seed at least two miles from other varieties or provide a protective cage. In areas where the ground freezes over winter, it will be necessary to dig up the carrots before the first heavy frost; twist off the tops and store the carrots at 35 degrees F in damp sand or sawdust over winter, making sure the roots do not touch. Plant medium sized carrot seeds again in the spring. From 30-40 carrots should be harvested to preserve genetic diversity. In warmer climates, leave them in the ground and cover them thickly with mulch over winter. In the spring, allow the top of the plant to flower; when they grow brown and dry, cut them off and allow them to fully dry. Clean to remove as much chaff as possible, then store Danvers carrot seeds in a cool, dry place for up to three years. KURODA SHIN CARROT 350 SEEDS NON-GMO FRESH FOR 2024 GARDENS
350 KURODA SHINCARROT A Complete Guide to Cultivating and Enjoying Kuroda Shin Carrots Introduction: Kuroda Shin carrot, also known as the Japanese Kuroda carrot, is known for its vibrant orange color, sweet flavor, and crisp texture. Cultivating this variety can be a rewarding experience for gardeners and home growers. In this guide, we will take you through the step-by-step process of cultivating Kuroda Shin carrots. Additionally, we’ll provide a popular recipe and discuss the health benefits associated with these delicious vegetables. Cultivation Guide: 1. Choosing the Right Location: Kuroda Shin carrots prefer well-drained, loose soil that is rich in organic matter. Ensure that the planting site receives at least six hours of direct sunlight each day. Avoid compacted or heavy clay soils, as they can lead to misshapen or stunted carrots. 2. Preparing the Soil: Prepare the soil by removing any weeds or debris. Loosen the soil using a garden fork or tiller, incorporating compost or well-rotted manure to improve the soil’s quality, structure, and fertility. Aim for a pH level between 6.0 and 7.0. 3. Sowing the Seeds: Carrots are best grown from seeds sown directly in the ground. Plant the seeds in rows with each row spaced about 12-18 inches apart. Sow the seeds half an inch deep, aiming for a spacing of 2-3 inches between each seed. 4. Germination and Thinning: Carrot seeds typically take 14-21 days to germinate. Keep the soil consistently moist during this period. Once the seedlings reach 2-3 inches in height, thin them to ensure proper root development. Maintain a spacing of 2-4 inches between each plant. 5. Watering and Moisture: Consistent and even moisture is crucial for growing Kuroda Shin carrots. Water the plants regularly, ensuring the soil is moist but not waterlogged. Avoid overhead watering to prevent foliar diseases. 6. Weed and Pest Control: Regularly weed the carrot patch to prevent competition for nutrients and water. Additionally, consider using organic pest control methods, as Kuroda Shin carrots are susceptible to carrot rust flies and other pests. Regularly inspect leaves for damages and consult with local gardening experts for guidance on pest control. 7. Harvesting: Kuroda Shin carrots typically take around 70-85 days to mature. As the roots develop, carefully pull one or two carrots from the soil to check their size and flavor. Harvest when the carrots are around 6-8 inches in length and exhibit a bright orange color. Carrots left in the ground too long can become woody and lose their sweetness. Recipe: Carrot and Ginger Soup Ingredients: – 1 lb Kuroda Shin carrots, peeled and chopped – 1 medium yellow onion, chopped – 2 cloves of garlic, minced – 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and grated – 4 cups vegetable or chicken broth – 1 cup coconut milk – 2 tablespoons olive oil – Salt and pepper to taste Instructions: 1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until translucent. 2. Add the garlic and ginger, stirring for one minute until fragrant. 3. Add the chopped carrots and sauté for another 5 minutes. 4. Pour in the broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for approximately 20-25 minutes or until carrots are tender. 5. Using an immersion blender or regular blender, blend the soup until smooth and creamy. 6. Return the soup to the pot and stir in coconut milk. Cook for another 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. 7. Season with salt and pepper according to taste. 8. Ladle into bowls, garnish with your preferred toppings, and serve hot. Health Benefits: 1. Rich in Beta-Carotene: Kuroda Shin carrots are an excellent source of beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A. Vitamin A contributes to healthy vision, immune function, and vibrant skin. 2. Antioxidant Powerhouse: Carrots contain antioxidants such as vitamin C and other phytochemicals that help neutralize harmful free radicals, protecting cells from damage. 3. Heart Health: The presence of soluble fiber helps regulate cholesterol levels, promoting heart health. 4. Digestive Health: The high fiber content of Kuroda Shin carrots aids in maintaining a healthy digestive system and preventing constipation. 5. Vitamin K: Carrots provide a good amount of vitamin K, which is essential for proper blood clotting and overall bone health. By following the steps outlined in this guide, you’ll be able to enjoy these vibrant and sweet carrots straight from your own garden.
