Do not eat treated seeds. **Seeds are freshly packed for the growing season of the year listed. Seeds are still viable beyond pack date. Store in a cool and dry location such as the refrigerator or basement to best preserve germination rates. Planting Instructions: Soil Preparation and Fertilizing: Radishes are a cool-season crop and don’t do as well in hot summer months. Radishes like loose, well-drained soil to allow the roots to expand easily. If the soil is crusty, the roots can become misshapen. To prepare the soil, clear the area of rocks, trash, and large sticks. Small pieces of grass and leaves can be mixed into the soil to make it richer. Spade the soil 12-18 inches deep and completely cover plant material. You may optionally scatter 1 cup of a complete fertilizer on the soil for each 10 feet of row to be planted. Rake the soil until it is smooth and work the beds into 4-6 inch raised ridges to allow soil to drain and let air enter soil. Space the ridges 8-12 inches apart from center to center or further apart if radishes are to be followed by a summer crop. You plant 2 or more rows of radishes on each ridge. Planting: Plant seeds as soon as the soil can be worked in the spring. Use a hoe handle or stick to make a 1/2 inch furrow deep down the center of the ridge. Plant 3-4 seeds in the furrows spaced 4 inches apart within the rows. Cover lightly with loose soil then sprinkle with water. You may make several plantings 8-10 days apart for a steady supply of radishes. Planting Depth: 1/2 inch Within-Row Spacing: 4 inch Between-Row Spacing: 8-12 inches Care During the Season: Watering: Scratch the soil around the plants lightly with a rake or hand tool to keep the soil from crusting. Water the plants well weekly if it does not rain. Weeding: Keep the radishes free of weeds, which rob weak root systems of nutrients and moisture. Thinning: Thin the radishes when the roots start expanding. Pull every other plant to thin. The larger roots can be eaten and those left in the row will continue to get bigger without being crowded. Insecticides: Insecticides may be used to protect plants. Bt-based insecticides and sulfur are organic options that can be used for prevention. Sevin is a synthetic option. Sulfur also has fungicidal properties and helps in controlling many diseases. Before using a pesticide, please read the label and always follow cautions, warnings and directions. Diseases: Because radishes mature so quickly, diseases are usually not a problem. Check plants daily and treat with an approved fungicide if disease do appear. Neem oil, sulfur, and other fungicides are available for use. Please always follow label directions. Harvesting: Harvest radishes when they are young and tender. If left in the ground too long, they get tough, hot tasting and stringy. To harvest, pull the radishes, cut off the tops and small roots, to discard or put in a compost pile. The center of the radishes should be solid with no cracks while an overmature radish may have a pithy or cracked center. Wash the radishes well and place them in plastic bags in the refrigerator. They will keep 2-3 weeks or until the next planting is ready for harvest. Mountain Laurel Shrub, Kalmia Latifolia, Seeds (Showy Evergreen)
Mountain Laurel, Kalmia Latifolia, Shrub Seeds Evergreen, Flowering Shrub, Moist Soil, Shade Tolerant, Acid Loving Mountain Laurel is a broadleaf evergreen shrub or small tree that is native to Eastern North America where it is often found growing in rocky or sandy woods. It is noted for its excellent spring flowers and year round foliage. It typically grows as a dense rounded shrub to 5 to 15 feet tall, opening up and developing gnarly branches with age. Notwithstanding its usual shrub habit, Mountain Laurel will rarely grow as a small tree to as much as 30 feet tall. Flowers appear in terminal clusters (corymbs to 6 inches across), typically covering the shrub in May for several weeks with an often exceptional bloom. Each flower (to 1 inch across) is cup shaped with five sides and ranges in color from rose to white with purple markings inside. If not deadheaded, flowers give way to non-showy brown fruits (3/16” dehiscent capsules) that persist into winter. Elliptic alternate leathery glossy evergreen leaves (to 5 inches long) are dark green above and yellow green beneath. Numerous cultivars of this plant are available in commerce, ranging in flower color from white to deep rose and combinations thereof. All parts of this plant are toxic if ingested. Mountain Laurel has acquired a number of different common names over time including ivy bush, spoonwood, calico bush and American laurel. Linnaeus named the genus herein after Sweedish botanist Peter Kalm (1716-1779) who explored plant life in parts of eastern North America from 1747 to 1751. Common Name: Mountain Laurel Zone: 4 to 9 Growth Rate: Slow Plant Type: Broadleaf evergreen Family: Ericaceae Native Range: Eastern United States Height: 5 to 15 feet Spread: 5 to 15 feet Bloom Time: May Bloom Color: Rose to white with purple markings Flower/Fruit: 1″ flowers in rounded clusters at branch tips, each flower hexagonal, generally pink, sometimes white, red, or purplish; the tips of the stamens are tucked into little notches in the petals. Followed by non-showy brown fruits (3/16” dehiscent capsules) that persist into winter. Sun: Part Shade Evergreen: plant for cool, acid, woodsy conditions. Water: Medium Maintenance: Medium Site Requirements/ Soil Tolerances: Sun to partial shade; moist, well-drained, acidic soil but is tolerant of dry soil General Culture: Best grown in moist, acidic, humusy, well-drained soils in part shade. Mulch to retain moisture and keep root zones cool. Plants tolerate a wide range of light conditions (full sun to full shade), Plants do not grow well in heavy clay soils. Uses: Superior flowering native shrub for groups or massing in shrub borders, cottage gardens, woodland areas or wild/naturalized areas Compliments rhododendrons and azaleas. 1 oz BUFFALO GRASS Seed Native Prairie Sedge Low Maintenance Drought Heat Turf
Buffalograss is a warm-season, perennial native grass that forms a sod and the mature height is generally 8 inches or less. Buffalograss is native to the Great Plains from Canada to Mexico. Buffalograss is a dioecious species having separate male and female plants. The male plant, when flowering, has an erect stem with a flag-like spike. The female plant forms a burr below the canopy which contains and the seed. Buffalograss has fine-textured leaves and spreads by runners or stolons. Buffalograss prefers well-drained clay loam and clay soils. Buffalograss is thought of as a “dual-purpose” grass since it has long been used for both ranges as well as turf applications. The low-maintenance aspect of buffalograss has created great interest in developing new turfgrass cultivars with increased leaf density, faster establishment and improved color.Buffalograss is a dominant grass in a shortgrass prairie. Grows slower than typical turf grass. Buffalo Grass can be mowed several times per year or left in place for a natural look.
