Quick note: My seeds are grown, harvested and selected by me. I start ALL of my seedlings/transplants, so you know there are no chemicals, pesticides, insecticides, or harsh commercial fertilizers used in the products I produce. MADE IN THE USABack in 2010 I bought my first assortment of heirloom seeds, off ebay actually, from Blue Ribbon Tomatoes. Unfortunately, they are no longer selling heirloom tomato seed, boo! Anyway, I bought 100 or so varieties and have been growing them out ever since. One of the tomatoes I’ve grown, that has been a favorite, and one I have grown several times is ACE 55. ACE 55 tomato seeds, heirloom, open-pollinated, non-gmo. 25 seeds per packet. ACE 55 has a fantastic flavor(did I say DELICIOUS?!?!), is red, large, and VERY productive. This tomato, ACE 55, has performed amazingly well for me in the high desert frontier at 4100 feet. My growing season is sometimes very long (May-November) and other years it can end in early September. No matter, this variety puts on a ton of fruit and does very well regardless of length of season. Great flavor and appearance. With ACE 55, you will get a lot of nice red tomatoes all at once as this is a determinate variety, which makes it great for canning/processing. Due to its low acid content however, canning should take place in a pressure cooker or lemon juice must be added to jars if water bath canning. Many old timers in my town say this is the only tomato they grow, great canner, and great fresh eating especially for those who have trouble with high acid tomatoes. Fantastic on sandwiches and burgers!This variety is also one of the few low acid red varieties that matures in only 75-85 days.The Ace 55 tomato is a hearty tomato with thick walled fruits and low acid content. The bright red fruits grow to about 7oz. The Ace 55 grows somewhat large, indeterminate vines, 4-5 feet, that are resistant to Fusarium Wilt, Verticillium Wilt, and Alternaria Stem CankerLarge red fruit, semi-globe medium firm with thick walls and very good interior color; uniform ripening. Vine medium to large and very productive. Low in acid and can be eaten by those who cannot use ordinary acidic sorts of tomatoes. Adapted for Western areas, but does well in all zones..This is an open-pollinated variety. A standard in the garden for those wanting a dependable producer of abundant crops of 10-12 oz. red tomatoes with good flavor. This variety is preferred by those folks who have difficulty with higher acid tomatoes. Ace is a vigorous med-large determinate tomato plant that was bred for the marketplace so it resists cracking. A good choice for a farmer’s market tomato. ACE 55 tomato, from hat I can tell, was developed by Campbell’s Soups and growing/performance trials took place at the UNIVERSITY OF LOS ANGELES and is one of the few red low-acid tomatoes. It also has excellent resistance to disease and cracking.First offered for sale in 1950, Americans valued it for being among the first low-acid, open-pollinated, multiple disease resistant tomatoes. Nutritional Value:The red tomato is listed on most nutritional lists as a super-food. It is packed with the antioxidant vitamins A and C, potassium and the B vitamins for heart health, and above all a powerful carotenoid called lycopene. This phytonutrient, which is responsible for the bright red color of tomatoes, has been studied for its role in fighting various cancers, and its ability to lower cholesterol. I believe seed stored under refrigerated conditions could last 10 years or more. I have just planted some ACE 55 seeds from 2000 this last summer, 2017. They did great!
