It grows naturally in grasslands where it blooms during Eastertime, making this one of the first flowers to come out for the season. It can continue growing for fifty years once established. The silky and feathery fruit heads look like Clematis fruit heads. The wind disperses seeds. It can grow to about a foot tall and wide. It has basal leaves with a solitary hairy stalk and three unstalked leaves. The flowers are a light blue covered in silky hairs, which insulate the plant and help its survival.
