Gaultheria shallon – Salal. Hardy in zones 7-10. Plant height varies from 2 foot in full sun to 4-10 foot tall in shade. Plant with rhododendron and ferns. Eat berries raw, or make pies and jellies.

These teaberry or wintergreen plants blanket my yard and we can’t eat them all! My favorite thing is that these are the only berry I know of that stays ripe for up to 12 months! Very hardy as long as they don’t dry out for too long.
