Common Milkweed Seeds, Asclepias syriaca -Farm Heirloom Seed, Natural No Chems!
Asclepias syriaca, or Common Milkweed is the sole source of food for the Monarch butterfly caterpillar. Planting this wonderful flower will help give this endangered butterfly a fighting chance.Not only is it an integral part of any butterfly garden, but it will reward you with a most beautiful fragrance. We love it here on our farm when all of the milkweed is in bloom and their fragrance is in the air. It has a scent like a mix lilacs and lilies.This seed was hand harvested by us last fall, 2023.Best started in pots or direct seed in the ground 1/4″ deep. Because milkweed can germinate slowly, (14 – 21 days in some instances) we recommend the paper towel method. Place seeds on a damp paper towel, in a sealed ziplock and store in a nice warm spot to speed germination. Cold stratification (seeds in the fridge for a couple weeks) These seeds were hand-collected from our farm in New York State last fall.Our farm has been in our family for 150 years and never have we used chemicals, herbicides or pesticides in all that time.Your purchase helps us preserve and maintain our farm for future generations.
