Shrimp Plants are probably the most well known of the species. The Justicia or Jacobina is a low growing, shade loving perennial shrub that is a great choice for mixed perennial beds as filler or to bring color to shady nooks and corners. It has large pointed oval dark green foliage and low rounded growth habit; maturing at about 24 to 28 inches tall. As the nights begin to warm into the 60’s and 70’s, a large fountain-like plume of bright, solid white long, slender petals emerge from the terminal ends of the branches and curving outwards. The bloom cycle is long beginning in the early spring and lasting until early winter in tropical climates. They lend great interest, texture and color.
