Nymphaea Slocum’s Almost Black Water Lily (WinterHardy) | Sprouted Tuber/Rhizome
⬇PLEASE READ BEFORE PURCHASING⬇ (PLANT INFO)————————————————————-Scientific name: Nymphaea “Almost Black“Hybridizer: SlocumAvailable As: Sprouted Tuber/RhizomeHardiness/Type: Very Winter HardyBloom Season: Spring to fallFlower Size: 14 cmFlower Production: ModerateFlower Color: Dark Red (Almost Black Center)Pad Color: Dark GreenSize: Medium-large (5“- 8“ across / 4′- 8′ spread)Water Depth: 6“ to 2′ (best in 1.5)’Fertilizer: 2 to 3 tablets Monthly (April to September)Hardiness Zone: USDA Zone 4-11Light Conditions: Full Sun (PLANT INFO)————————————————————- The Nymphaea “Almost Black“ has a very dark almost black center and outer petals are a deep saturated red & this beautiful plant was bred by the famous waterlily hybridizer Perry Slocum in 1993. It is the second darkest red lily (behind Slocum’s “Black Princess”), with a nice mottled pattern on the pads all summer & usually late into the fall. We’ve had lilies such as this beauty for over 20+ years & will for many more to come. They are very easy growers for me & to plant them, use your pot & fill with a heavier clay type dirt (the heavier the better; you don’t want floating). Plant the tuber in said dirt & cover with an inch layer of sand (this will hold the dirt down). Then allow the top growth of the tuber to come up above the sand a little. If you have koi or goldfish in a pond, maybe zip tie the tuber to a rock inside the pot so they can’t dig it up. Slowly submerge in the pond or larger container and sink it at least a foot and up to 3 foot below the surface of the water if you have a deeper pond. During the growing months, fertilize each month with a few aquatic fertilizer tabs pushed down in the soil. The lily will grow fast & will become root bound in the pot in 1 to 2 years (You will repot when this happens; best done when pads are growing in early spring). Repot with 1 to 2 tubers; this will give plenty of room for new growth. If you have any issues or have a question, send me a message. Autumn Beauty Sunflower Seed Flower Mix Maroon, Mauve, Yellow Non-GMO 100 SeedsAutumn Beauty Sunflower steals the show in the late-season garden with a mixture of warm oranges, reds and yellows. Fresh, pure, non-GMO flower seeds. This variety is easy to grow and flowers from late summer all the way into fall, attracting butterflies and hummingbirds to its nectar-rich blooms. With sturdy stems and striking petal colors, Autumn Beauty is exceptional in bouquets and makes a great addition to the cutting garden. Can be grown in any zone. Sunflowers are one of the easiest flowers to grow from seed. Sunflowers grow wonderfully along a border and are a good option to grow with children. Before Planting: Sunflowers are very tough and can grow in nearly any soil, but prefer full sun. Sunflowers attract hummingbirds, butterflies, they are bee friendly and deer resistant, low maintenance, good for cut flowers and great for mass plantings. Love yellow finches? Plant these sunflowers – the seeds are small and finches love them! Advantages Zones 1 – 10Easy To GrowAttract ButterfliesAttract HummingbirdsBee FriendlyDeer ResistantLow MaintenanceGood For Cut FlowersGreat For Mass PlantingsLight Requirements Plant Information This is a popular hybrid mix of colors created from the true grandfather species of them all—the basic annual sunflower that figured so prominently in Native American ritual, fabric making, and foods. Flowers are highly decorative, with small centers and petals that range from pure gold to gold with brown, deep reds, and an unlimited show of color combinations. This is to sunflowers what Gloriosa Daisy is to black-eyed susan. A very popular mix in the cut-flower trade, and a must for your cutting garden. However, where the growing season is short, sunflowers can be safely planted up to 2 weeks before the last expected spring frost. Sunflowers can take a chill or two. Where growing seasons are long, it is best to wait until the soil temperature reaches 55 degrees to 60 degrees F. To plant sunflowers: Space seeds about 6 inches apart in a shallow trench between 1 and 2 inches deep. In sandy soil, 2 inches deep is better. Cover and keep watered until seeds sprout in 7 to 10 days. When first true leaves appear (the second set of leaves); thin plants to about 2 feet apart. Depending on the variety, sunflowers will mature and develop seeds in 80 to 120 days. Sow a new row every 2 to 3 weeks to enjoy continuous blooms until the first frost. Sprinkle them on the soil and leave uncovered. If it is windy you can lightly compress so they don’t blow away.If you get a late start, seeds can also be stratified by placing them in the refrigerator, usually in some kind of moist potting soil.Blend seed and seed starting mix in a 1:3 ratio in a plastic bag or a small container like a margarine tub and put them in your refrigerator.Keep them refrigerated for several weeks before planting in the garden. They can be planted in the spring, summer or fall. Most gardeners sow their daisy seeds directly in the garden.WHERE TO PLANT DAISY SEEDSChoose a sunny location that is well-protected with rich, well-drained soil. Compost can be mixed with your garden soil.HOW TO PLANT DAISY SEEDSUse a hoe or rake to scratch the top of soil. Then, toss the seeds on top. Daisy seeds should only lightly be covered with about 1/8 inch of soil. It is important to maintain a good level of moisture until the seeds have germinated (in approximately 14 days). If you desire, a general fertilizer can be applied during the early growth stages and monthly thereafter. Before the daisies bloom, you can switch to a high phosphorus fertilizer. This will give you bigger, brighter flowers.HOW TO CARE FOR DAISIESDaisies need average amounts of water.Once your perennials are established, separate your varieties by division every 3 to 4 years to avoid overcrowding. Dig up clumps and separate them into groups to be replanted. If you live in a cold climate, give your daisies a layer of mulch to protect them during the winter.WE SHIP FAST & FREE! It is important to not plant too early; if seeds are installed prior to a late-season frost, they will be lost for the season and will need to be are-seeded.For Fall planting, make sure you plant the seeds after the first killing frost to eliminate any chance of germination. Planting in the Fall gives you a jump start on Spring bloomsWHERE TO PLANT WILDFLOWERSThough many wildflowers do tolerate some filtered shade, and a few actually thrive in it. The vast majority are definitely sun-lovers. Wildflowers will generally sprout in all but the most difficult conditions. This means that pampering your site with fertilizer or rich sod is not usually necessary.HOW TO PLANT WILDFLOWERSClear the area and work the soil as best you can before planting your seeds. Don’t panic when some weeds sprout along with the flowers, this will happen when the soil is worked. We recommend mixing your seeds with sand – 5 parts sand to 1 part seeds. This allows for a more even distribution and also provides a convenient way to mark which portions of the site have been seeded and which have not. For a smaller area, you can hand-broadcast the seeds. For larger areas, we recommend a seed spreader to create a better cast of the seeds. After the seeds have been sown, lightly compress the seeds into the soil about 1/2″ to protect from birds and wind.HOW TO CARE FOR WILDFLOWERSAlthough Wildflowers are pretty easy to take care of, there are some steps to keep it looking beautiful. Regularly weed to ensure your wildflowers are getting the nutrients they need. Water your plants during dry spells. Deadhead blooms that are spend to encourage new growth.HOW TO COLD STRATIFY SEEDSEveryone wants plants. Now. But there are a small group of seeds that require a special treatment before they will even germinate in a climate that has temperatures below freezing. This process is called “Cold Stratification.” There are two ways to accomplish this.Fall PlantingIf time is not a problem, you can put them in the ground in fall and let them go through a winter. They will sprout next year, but not flower. The following year, having gone through two winters, they will return and bloom as expected. If you are planting poppies direct sowing is recommended in late fall or early spring for zones 2-8Create a “False Winter”The second way to do this, if you want to save time, is to create a “false winter.” What this does is trick the seeds into thinking they have been in the ground for an entire year. All they need is to be in your refrigerator for at least 2 ½ months.About 3 months before spring, place seeds in a plastic bag with a handful of slightly dampened, clean peat, paper towel, or a mix of clean peat and sand.Seal and label the bag with seed name and date, then store in the refrigerator (not freezer) for at least 2½ mos. before planting in spring.
