Untitled DocumentStoreFeedbackFollow UsTropical Milkweedalso referred to as ‘Blood Flower,’ ‘Scarlet Milkweed,’ or ‘Mexican Butterfly Weed,’ Tropical Milkweed is a tender perennial in the milkweed family. This variety is native to South America, but has naturalized in the United States in many of the southern tropical and subtropical areas. It is grown as an annual in cooler climates, but it has a much longer flowering period than the other winter-hardy varieties of perennial milkweeds. Tropical Milkweed tolerates growing in large containers and is a low-maintenance milkweed variety that performs well on dry sites that have clay, sand, loam or average soils. It is drought tolerant and deer resistant once established. Our Tropical Milkweed seeds will help you attract Monarch Butterflies and other pollinators such as bumblebees, native honeybees, hummingbirds, unique butterfly species and other insects that are beneficial to your garden or eco-landscape! Monarch Milkweed Seeds has supplied Milkweed seeds all throughout North America since 2015. Our passion is rooted in holistic land management, regenerative agriculture, permaculture and natural farming. We very much appreciate and honor the role that the Monarch butterfly plays in our ecosystem, as pollinators and as a species – and you should too! We continue to receive support from all over the country; ranging from nature parks to conservationist projects, schools, educational programs and home gardeners. Important: Tropical Milkweed seeds DO NOT need to be ‘vernalized’ (given a cold treatment) before planting so you can direct sow the seeds into soil immediately. Since Tropical milkweed is actually a South American native, it does not die back in the winter if planted in hot climates, therefore it is important to cut this plant down to the base during winter months when Monarchs are supposed to be hibernating south so they do not get confused with migration paths and succession timing for reproduction and hibernation. Seed Quantity NOTE: To conserve resources we combine all orders of duplicate seed quantities of the same variety into one pack. For example, if you order two packages of 200 Tropical Milkweed seeds, they will be combined into one pack of 400 seeds.Variety InfoNAME: Milkweed (Asclepais curassavica) VARIETY: Tropical DAYS TO MATURITY: 120 days POLLINATION: Open Pollinated TYPE: Lasting perennial in warm zones, tender perennial in mild climates HARDINESS ZONE: Zones 8 – 11 SUNLIGHT: Full Sun / Partial Sun SOIL: Clay, Loam, Sand, Average soils with a pH 6.1 – 7.5 PLANT HEIGHT: 2 – 3 feet SPACING: 12 – 18 inches TEMP: 60 – 110 °FShipping Info ⥇ Free shipping on all orders ⥇ Orders are mailed 1-3 business days after payment processes ⥇ Shipping time subject to change due to inclement local weather/USPS delays ⥇ We do not ship outside the contiguous USA (Virgin Island, Puerto Rico, Guam or Alaska) NOTE: If your eBay address is different than your actual shipping address you are obligated to change your eBay address to the proper mailing address otherwise, we will default to using your mailing address associated with your eBay account.
