20+ edible Smooth Luffa Seeds; sponge gourd; 絲瓜 菜瓜; muop huong; Turai, Sebot, Patola, Chinese Okra; non-GMO heirloomKitazawa Seed #149This smooth skin sponge gourd has dark green and slightly ribbed fruit. It is grown for food or sponges. The young fruit are cooked or used in salad. The buds, shoots and young leaves are also edible. The immature flesh is especially good stir-fried with chicken, bamboo shoots or cashews. Mature fruit is dried for its fiber.Growing tips: 1) Do not transplant too early, as young plants could be stunned when overnight temperature below 40F. Here in Chicago Zone 5B, better growth is observed when transplanted after Memorial Day 2) Let the vines climb to chain link fence, cattle panel, arbor, trellis…etc. Best fruit yielding when maximum sun exposure is provided. Allow at least 50-100 sqft aerial space per vine. 3) Once a female flower is found, you can pinch off the rest of the “branch”, to achieve best fruit size, as well as provide “bushy” growth to the main vine. SHORT GREEN SKIN BITTER MELON SEEDS – KHỔ QUA TRÁI LÙN – BALSAM PEAR – 여주 – 苦瓜

SHORT GREEN SKIN BITTER MELON SEEDS – HẠT KHỔ QUA TRÁI LÙN HARVEST CORN AFTER 40 DAYSBitter melon (also known as Momordica charantia or bitter gourd) is a plant that gets its name from its taste. As a fruit that has properties of a vegetable, bitter melon contains vitamins A and C as well as iron. It has been recognized by many cultures as having medicinal value. In Vietnamese cuisine, bitter melon is valued for its bitter flavor, typically in stir-fries with pork, soups, and herbal tea. SowSow bitter melon seeds directly in the selected planting location’s warm soil when all danger of frost has passed. Create holes about 3/4 inch deep and spaced 20 inches apart in the soil. Drop seeds in each hole, and cover the holes with a loose layer of soil. Water the planting site well. The seeds should germinate in about one week. GrowSelect a warm, sunny planting location with soil that drains well.Bitter melon grows best in rich, sandy or loamy soil with an average pH level of about 6.5 but adapts to soil with a pH level as high as 8.Wait until each bitter melon seedling has four leaves, and then remove some of the young plants so that only one plant grows from where each planting hole was located.Install a trellis or other support structure beside your bitter melon vines. The vines will climb on and be supported by a trellis. An alternative is to insert bamboo poles, metal pipes or wood stakes in the soil by each plant, and connect those structures to each other with string or wire, which will support the climbing vines. HarvestDays to Maturity: 38-40 Days.Generally taste best when harvested when they reach a length of 12-15 inches, or 3-3.5 inches in diameter. The fruit is most often eaten green, or as it is beginning to turn yellow. At this stage, the fruit’s flesh is crunchy and watery in texture. Germination: 1. Soak seeds into water between 100F 105F, 38C-41C for 15 to 20 hours. Soaking seeds before planting helps to break down the seed’s natural defenses which allows them to germinate faster. 2. Take seeds out. Place seeds in clean moisten paper towel. Fold paper towel and keep it in ziploc bag and place ziploc bag in dark and warm place (75F-85F ). Make sure paper towel is always moist and spray water as needed. After 7-15 days, seeds should germinate. 3. Use potting mix or seedling soil to plant seeds. Plant seeds at a depth equal to two or three times their width. Make sure to spray twice daily to keep the ground moist (but not too wet). 4. After 1 month, they grow between 2-3 inches tall. Keep spray water twice per day. Transplant them to bigger pots if planted in seed starter pots or plant them on ground after 2-3 months old. When temperature drops below 50F, plants should be covered frost blanket. If in pot, store inside warm place near the sun light. ———————————————————————————————–Please Check out our store for other kinds of seeds!
