Tree Tobacco is a fast-growing, drought-tolerant shrub native to South America, where it can often be found growing alongside trails and roadways, and in abandoned fields and other disturbed areas. Plant has blueish-green, lance shaped leaves and can grow to between 10 and 20 feet in height. It produces numerous clusters of tubular, yellow flowers that attract bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators. Please note this is a strictly ornamental plant and should not be consumed. Direct sow in spring by gently pressing the seeds into soil’s surface. Keep soil lightly moist until germination, which should occur within 7 to 14 days. To start indoors, plant seeds 8 to 10 weeks before the last spring frost. Use cell trays or seeds flats and be sure to sow the seeds on the soil’s surface. Provide light and keep soil moist until germination. Typically blooms from March through September.
