The species name “hastata” comes from the Latin words for “spear-shaped,” referring to the shape of the leaves. Direct sow in late fall, pressing the seed into the surface of the soil. For spring planting, mix the seeds with moist sand and store in the refrigerator for 30 days before planting. Keep the soil lightly moist until germination. Unlike other members of the vervain family, this variety preferes medium to dry conditions. 24-36″ flowers that will produce 1/2″ violet blue flowers that grow in spiked clusters.
