Cymbopogon citratus is a tropical herb/grass in the Poaceae family. A native Southeast Asia or Malaysia. Common names are Lemongrass or West Indian Lemongrass. It is often sold in stem form in special markets. It is grown mostly in warmer temperate regions. It has bluish-green leaves around 18 inches long. It is known as sereh, serai, or serai dapur in Indonesia and Malaysia and called tanglad, salai, or balioko in the Philippines. It is edible and used in many dishes in many countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, and Madagascar, just to name a few. Easy to grow from seed. Zones 9-11 Germination Sow seeds 1/4″ deep and lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover and keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 7-30 days.
