It should be sited in areas where winter temperatures are unlikely to dip below zero degrees F. This is an evergreen shrub that typically grows over time to 5-8? tall and to 4? wide with elliptic to obovate, serrate, glossy dark green leaves (to 3? long). Fragrant, pink and white, formal double flowers (each to 3-4? diameter) have darker pink streaking. Bloom occurs in early spring (April), thus giving rise to the name April Series. ?April Dawn? came from a cross between C. japonica ?Berenice Boddy? and C. japonica ?Herme?. ?April Dawn? has unusually good winter hardiness.
