They have 3-leaflet clover leaves and stunning red flowers; keep an eye out for four leaf clovers too! This plant provides an excellent source of forage for grazing animals and nectar for pollinators. Crimson Clover grows best in cool weather, so grow it as a spring or fall cover crop. Although it is most commonly cultivated as a fast-growing annual groundcover and nitrogen fixer for poor soils, this variety of clover makes beautiful landscaping in beds or pots. A variety of soils are tolerated by Crimson Clover, but it does best if the soil is well drained.
