These interesting shade perennials are commonly called Toad Lilies, a common name that arose from elaborate hoax perpetrated on the world’s scientific and anthropological communities in the 70’s regarding the discovery of an aboriginal native tribe in the Philippines. One of the embellishments of this story was that these natives rubbed the crushed leaves of a native tricyrtis species on their hands and arms as an attractant for toads they would catch barehanded for food. There are several hundred different types in an endless variety of color combinations. It is a vigorous, tall, upright growing plant. The flowers of Strawberry Cream are large and somewhat similar to Ecuador Pink in that they are large, have a white throat, and are heavily recurved with attractive, long whiskers. However, the tone is typically more pastel rose-toned pink than peach depending on growing conditions.
