The taste is like a honeydew and sweet apple mixed together, very sweet and refreshing. It has a crisp apple like texture, but it could get a little creamier as the fruit matures. Make sure you pick the fruit until it turns yellow and smells fragrant or it will be bland. Apple melon tolerates drought and heat much better than the traditional muskmelons. We found it very easy to grow. It survived the hot spells and heavy rains and continued to produce throughout the summer. Limit water for a week in advance of harvest to concentrate sweetness.
