Shiitake Mushroom Plug Spawn. 1000 plugs on spiral cut dowels usually in two bags of 500. Spiral cut helps to ensure more valuable mycelium stays in the grooves when hammered in. Used to inoculate freshly cut logs. Made with certified organic grains. Free shipping in the USA. Shiitake grows best on oak logs followed closely by sugar maple and other hardwoods.Fresh cut logs should be used to prevent competitor fungi although it is best to allow the lg to rest, off the ground after fresh cutting for 2-3 weeks prior to plugging. A bit from 5/16"-11/32" is commonly used including the metric 8.5mm in between. Many suppliers have adapters that fit angle grinders that make the process much faster. Also a collar can be used on the bit (or a simple wrapping of tape) to ensure appropriate hole depth. Made to order to ensure freshness, these sometimes will take approx 7-10 days to ship although I try to have some in stock ready to ship immediately, large orders of several thousand sometimes wipe out the immediately available inventory. Usually it's faster, sometimes not. Please be sure to idnetify any mushrooms before consuming, much like knowing the difference between a vegetable and weed!
