Please note : most cultivars only produce a few seeds a year on a mature tree which is why I only have a few listed for each one . Get them while you can . Early Bright Witch hazel features showy fragrant yellow strap-like flowers along the branches from late winter to early spring before the leaves. One of the first varieties to bloom in early to mid-winter. This was blooming in late Jan in my zone 7 . It has green foliage throughout the season. The serrated round leaves turn an outstanding yellow in the fall. It will grow to be about 12 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 12 feet. Hardiness Zone: 6a Height: 12 feet Spread: 12 feet Medicinal use of Witch Hazel: Witch hazel bark is a traditional herb of the North American Indians who used it to heal wounds, treat tumors, eye problems etc. A very astringent herb, it is commonly used in the West and is widely available from both herbalists and chemists. It is an important ingredient of proprietary eye drops, skin creams, ointments and skin tonics. It is widely used as an external application to bruises, sore muscles, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, sore nipples, inflammations etc. Edible parts of Witch Hazel: Seed - raw or cooked. An oily texture. The seeds are about the size of a barley grain and have a thick bony coat. A refreshing tea is made from the leaves and twigs.
